Timely, evidence-informed responses to the issues shaping children's lives online — with awareness, not alarm.
Social Media, Childhood and the Future
Recent government discussions around children and social media have raised important questions for parents, educators and young people. The Prime Minister's proposals for new rules to protect children online have sparked a national debate — and rightly so.
At Connected Child, we welcome this conversation. Children deserve better protection online, and we are glad to see the issue receiving serious attention. But we also believe it's important not to reduce a complex issue to a simple solution, or to let fear replace understanding.
For some children — particularly those who are neurodiverse — online communities offer connection, belonging, and opportunity that can be harder to find elsewhere. The question is never simply whether children should use technology. It is: how do we help children develop healthy, safe, and balanced relationships with it?
We've brought together evidence, resources, and discussion points below to help your family navigate this conversation with clarity and confidence.
